Did you ever hear the story of William Roozen, the flower grower who arrived to the United States from Holland? He began growing the bulbs (Tulips, Daffodils, Iris) in Skagit County in 1950. You know what they call it today?

Tulip Festival

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival” the most magnificent event in the Pacific Northwest, held from April 1-30, celebrating mother nature, celebrating the colors, celebrating a millions of tulips bursting into bloom.

The “Window of Opportunity” and a “Bunch of Hope” are my colorful take on the celebration of Tulips. The brightly colored tulips have always been a fascinating flower to me.

Why? As a newcomer to Seattle from India, Tulip was a fresh surprise to me. I never came across Tulips in India.

My first visit to Skagit Valley Tulip festival was a sweet delight. Fields and fields of Colors mesmerized me and inspired me to paint them.

The month of April can be hilariously varied (Weather wise)! Hey PNW folks, do you agree? There could be a week of wonderful Sun and warmth; in contrast, the gray clouds pay you a visit in the next moment.

In order to capture this hide and seek of sunshine, I opted to paint the tulips in within and Indoor lamp – Outdoor natural light setup. The first one is looking out through the window, as soon as the Sun is out, grab the “Window of Opportunity” to be outdoors, soak in the daylight, in the happiness.

Conversely, a “Bunch of Hope” will take through the gloomy overcast. That’s how the two Tulip paintings and the titles emerged. Rain or shine, the Indoor-Outdoor beauty in the Pacific Northwest is heartening!

Tulips come in a variety of colors, Yellow and Orange, Pink and Red, Purple and Violet. I picked Red for several reasons. Firstly, It’s my favorite color! Also, as an Indian, the symbolic colors hold a lot of significance in my color choices.

Red is Beauty as well as Fire!

Red is Love as well as Power!

Red is Flames, Red flows through the Veins!!

On this note of Love, share with me how are you fascinated by a flower and a color. What is your favorite flower and why? Tell me your color story.
